Amazon Web Services (AWS) is launching announcements in preparation for its AWS re-Invent conference next week, which is expected to top 50,000 attendees this year. (Are you there?) We are happy to see the great news that the cloud giant has for us next week!
In the meantime, here are three AWS announcements from the past few days that will interest anyone who is concerned about cloud costs.
Predictive Scheduling for EC2
The new AWS predictive scale for EC2 is a new and improved way to use Auto Scaling to optimize costs. Typically, when you configure an automatic escalation group, you need to configure scheduling policies, such as rules, to start instances based on capacity changes. Given the complexity of these requirements, with some of the users we're talking to, we can stop using them, instead of using Auto Scaling simply like, for example, integrity checks and replacements.
With predictive scaling for EC2, the user needs very little to configure. It will simply configure the group and the machine learning models will analyze the daily and weekly scale patterns to scale in a predictable way. You'll have options to optimize availability or optimize cost, which will make it easier to use Auto Scaling to save money. Of course, sometimes you will know better than the machine; for example, development and test instances may require / Shutdown / scaling / scaling schedules are based on when users need them, which will not always be consistent. To do this, use ParkMyCloud to schedule automatic escalation groups to disable or change the scale when you know they will have little or no utility.
AWS Cost Forecast
AWS has announced an enhanced forecasting engine for the AWS Cost Explorer. Now divide historical data by billing type, distinguishing between on-demand and on-demand instance charges, and apply machine learning to predict future expenses.
They have extended the forecast range from three months to twelve months, which will certainly be useful for budget forecasting. It can also be accessed through the API; We see that this is used to show the budget forecasts in the control panels of the team in your office, among other applications.
Automatic CloudWatch Panels
The third announcement this week that we are looking forward to using here at ParkMyCloud is CloudWatch's new series of automatic control panels. This will make it visibly easier to navigate through CloudWatch metrics and monitor costs and performance, as well as helping potential problems avoid noise.
